Goscor Power Products (GPP), a leading Southern African distributor of generators, engines and pumps, teamed up with title sponsor Motul to host the Motul/GPP Bike Wash at the Roof of Africa 2016 event from 30 November to 3 December 2016.
The products supplied by GPP consisted of seven Lutian 206 bar pressure washers, regulated to 180 bar, each with its own 300 litre water tank and a 400 cc single-cylinder petrol engine, as well as a 30 m hose and lance, on a frame-mounted hose reel.
Additional equipment provided included a Lutian two-inch water pump for water transfer, and three Lutian 6.5 kW generators to power the air pumps for the inflatable tunnels and banners at the ‘start’ and ‘finish’ area. A pneumatic 4 m light tower was also supplied in case of any night work needed during the event.
“The washer-and-tank combination offered by Lutian is ideally suited for applications where water and power supply are limited, making it an ideal solution for the Roof in Africa 2016 event, which is staged in rural and mountainous terrain,” GPP Technical & Training Manager Wayne Allen comments. Additional applications for the Lutian high-pressure washers include mobile taxi operations and car washes, for example.
A total of 600 motorbikes passed through the Motul/GPP Bike wash during the three-day event, with 100 pump and engine stop-starts daily, and not a single failure on any of the equipment. “It offered exceptional reliability and economy, even in the heat-wave conditions recorded during the event,” Allen highlights.
Such was the performance of the Lutian high-pressure washers that GPP dealer Kevcor – which covers Bloemfontein, Kimberley, and Maseru in Lesotho – was able to secure the sale of all the used equipment immediately after the event, says Kevin Corrigan of Kevcor.
In addition to transporting all the GPP equipment from Johannesburg to Maseru, Kevcor also supplied two 5 000 litre tanks for water storage at the remote ‘start’ and ‘finish’ area. Kevcor stocks a full range of petrol, diesel, electric, and domestic pressure washers at its three branches. The range is also available at selected GPP dealers countrywide, and in most SADC (Southern African Development Community) countries.
The off-road motorcycles were cleaned in two dedicated wash bays at the Motul/GPP Bike Wash. The express wash bay afforded riders the opportunity to park their motorcycles, which were then subjected to a quick wash by the cleaning team. Meanwhile, the self-service lane allowed riders to have personal input into the cleaning process if need be.
Covering over 425 km of the harshest terrain known to man in the Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho, the Roof of Africa is one of the most treacherous and demanding hard enduro racing routes in the world. Presented for the 49th time, the 2016 event saw 385 competitors, including 13 international entrants, of which only 206 finished.
GPP, part of the Goscor Group of Companies, has 30 years’ experience in the power product industry, supplying a holistic spectrum of industrial equipment, including pumps, generators, welders, firefighters, engines, rammers, rollers, concrete mixers and compactors.
