Consumer Vigilance

Goscor Power Products (GPP) MD Michael Faber says that it is critical for consumers to make sure they are purchasing what is advertised. “We have come across many companies in our industry, including those who distribute some well-known brands, who mislead customers,” says Faber.

Faber says that if his company advertises a 13hp or 17hp Robin Subaru engine it is true to its word about the specs. “We encourage our customers to be vigilant and check very carefully the actual horsepower output of engines that they are about to purchase,” he says.

He adds that unusually big discounts should be a warning that there could be discrepancies between the horsepower advertised and the actual output of the machine.

Faber comments that unreasonable price cutting can also be a conscious policy to increase the number of units in circulation. “In this way companies hope to make their profits on service and spares alone. This can undermine a distribution business, eventually leaving customers high and dry. Our advice is to pay a little more initially but be assured of a lifetime of excellent backup and service.”

Meanwhile GPP’s Robin Subaru engines have developed an unequalled reputation for their power, durability and reliability and have become a household name in the OEM industry in South Africa.

Industry stalwart, Mark Bester, GPP’s new national sales manager, says the Robins Subaru is one of the most powerful single cylinder engines on the market in terms of horsepower.

“It’s no surprise that the Robin Sabru 13hp and 17hp EX13’s and EX17’s can cover such a wide range of applications.  They simply can do what they’re specified to do. Other engines often cannot compete because they’re not, in fact, what they are purported to be in terms of horse power output,” says Bester

He adds that Robin Subaru engines have many other advantages:

1. They are sealed and have dust-proof carburettors, which is a distinct advantage on a construction site.
2. The EX and E8 series comes with a three year warranty, which is not offered by anyone else on the market.
3.  They have an SAEJ1394 rating.
4. The EX and E8 series are amongst the very few Japanese brands still made in Japan.
